Sophie Evans is no stranger to the world of farm hygiene, animal welfare, and the critical importance of biosecurity. As Kersia’s UK P&P Area Sales Manager for the Southeast region, she plays an integral role in ensuring that farms maintain the highest hygiene standards, ultimately helping to keep animals safe and healthy.
A Passion for Farm Hygiene
Sophie’s journey into the field of farm hygiene began with a lifelong passion for working with animals. “I have always loved the idea of working with animals within Agriculture, and animal welfare has always been a key area of interest to me,” she explains. “Biosecurity and animal welfare go hand in hand, and my role allows me to ensure farm biosecurity is where it needs to be, which is essential to ensure the next flock of birds gets the best start. This also ensures the animals’ welfare needs are met too.”
Her role allows her to make a direct impact on animal welfare by helping farmers and producers uphold the highest standards of biosecurity. This focus on hygiene and biosecurity is central to Kersia’s commitment to food safety, with the company proudly offering hygiene solutions across the entire food chain, from farm to fork.
A Career Milestone
One of Sophie’s proudest professional moments occurred during her previous tenure at Kersia. “When I was with Kersia previously, I helped to trial and prove the effectiveness of Effisafe as a Formaldehyde alternative product. This resulted in a large customer rolling out the product across all of their farms. It was great to be involved in such an in-depth trial and to see the success of a new product in the UK market,” Sophie recalls. Her involvement in this project highlights the continuous innovation that Kersia brings to the agricultural sector and the real-world impact it has on the industry.
Life Outside Work
When she’s not busy leading farm hygiene initiatives or supporting Kersia’s customers, Sophie enjoys life on her own farm. “I run a small arable farm alongside my husband. We’ve expanded to over-wintering cattle and creating a horse livery,” she shares. “I’m so lucky to be able to immerse myself fully into agriculture in all aspects now!” Sophie’s passion for farming extends beyond the workplace and into her daily life, where she enjoys managing the farm and contributing to the wider agricultural community.
Taking Time for Herself
Outside of farming and her professional responsibilities, Sophie enjoys unwinding by spending time in nature. “I like going out for long walks around the fields when I am not busy being a mum to my amazing 3-year-old son!” Sophie’s ability to balance her demanding career with family life and personal time reflects her strong sense of dedication and balance.
The Kersia Team
Sophie’s love for working at Kersia stems from the strong camaraderie within the team. “My favourite thing is the people. My team, especially, are so supportive and are always there to help and learn from! I also love the fact I get to go out and meet so many different people within my role.” This sense of teamwork and connection is crucial in Kersia’s mission to provide top-tier hygiene solutions and maintain the safety and health of the food chain.
Superpower Aspirations
If Sophie could have any superpower to assist her in her work, it would be UV vision. “I’d love to have UV vision, which would enable me to see biofilms within the sheds. This would help ensure that the hygiene program has been carried out effectively,” she explains. Her ideal superpower reflects the importance of thorough hygiene processes and the continual need for innovation in ensuring food safety.
Kersia’s Commitment to Food Safety
As Kersia UK continues to expand and improve its hygiene solutions, Sophie and the entire team remain dedicated to ensuring food safety is upheld across all stages of the food chain. Kersia’s comprehensive approach to hygiene, from farm to fork, ensures that all food products meet the highest standards, promoting both animal welfare and consumer safety.
Sophie’s passion for farm hygiene, dedication to animal welfare, and commitment to food safety are what make her such a valued member of the Kersia team. Kersia is proud to have experts like Sophie helping to safeguard the future of food production and the welfare of animals everywhere.
